Job Overview
The dental assistant would be responsible for providing reversible intraoral dental services, procedures, or duties. These are to be performed under the supervision of the dentist as approved by the Board, to patients/clients at facilities across the state in Nursing Home, Assisted Living, and other congregate care facilities. The focus is on delivering the highest level of dental healthcare to patients/clients in these facilities. Professional behavior and teamwork will be exhibited in all facets of work and align with the mission of CareLink. Policies and protocols will be understood and practiced. HIPAA rules and regulations pertaining to patient confidentiality and dissemination of information will be followed.
Essential Functions
Clinical & Administrative

Responsible for setting up and breaking down the operatory, regarding sanitizing, disinfecting, and sterilizing mobile dental equipment and instruments in accordance with established CDC and OSHA guidelines.
Serves as the dentists’ chair side assistant.
Assists the dentist in performing needed patient services.
Completes accurate and timely documentation of dental services and assists with maintaining patient dental records regarding lab services.
Responsible for maintaining equipment and inventory supply lists.
Participates in effective communication with CareLink members.
Communicates effectively with facility personnel, patients, family members about diagnosis and treatment plan established by the dentist or hygienist.
Performs related work as required or directed.
Participates in staff meetings and in-service education programs as requested.

Dental assistant- DANB certified preferred.
Active member of professional organizations (ADAA, RIDAA etc.) - Preferred
Must be able to take on responsibilities and be able to function effectively with little or no supervision.
Must demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with patients, their families, and personnel in a professional manner.
Must be able to effectively communicate patients’ needs to other members of the health care team.
Must be computer and laptop literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel), basic dental software (e.g., Dentrix, Eagle soft), remote dental devices, and communicating through email.
Must be current on new dental technologies and willing to learn new skills as necessary.
Must be capable of performing basic administrative duties (e.g., use of MFD, copy machine, scanner, fax, and computer).
Must be open and flexible to new ideas and constructive feedback.
Certification and Licenses
Current driver’s license in good standing
Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) preferred.
Certification in all three area:

JOB SUMMARY:
A full time position responsible for the direct provision of oral hygiene and appropriate preventive services to dental patients of the center. The Registered Dental Hygienist will also be responsible for providing appropriate oral health information to individuals and groups.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the oral health management of all clinic patients.
Obtains baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care.
Records patient-hygienist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
Provides oral health education and appropriate individual counseling for all center dental patients.
Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center’s clinical protocols.
Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient’s health care management.
Organizes and performs preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations.
Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education in the community as requested.
Participates in the PI program of the Dental Department of the center.

POSITION SUMMARYAs a Dentist in our detention center, you will assume a critical role in providing essential dental care to our detainee population. Collaborating closely with the Health Services Administrator, you will oversee dental care priorities, ensure compliance with contractual obligations, and maintain the overall quality of dental services delivered on-site and off-site. Your expertise will contribute to the detention center's mission of providing comprehensive healthcare within the unique context of a correctional facility.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Although it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of all types of duties, responsibilities and performance standards, the following are the essential job functions:
With the Health Services Administrator, determines dental care priorities in relation to the facility’s mission, vision, values, and scope of service.
Perform comprehensive oral examinations and diagnose dental conditions.
Create personalized treatment plans for patients based on their oral health needs.
Conduct routine dental procedures such as cleanings, fillings, and extractions.
Administer local anesthetics for patient comfort during treatments.
Promote and educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices.
Offer guidance on diet and lifestyle choices that impact oral health.
Repair and restore damaged teeth using dental materials like fillings and crowns.
No dentures in-house. Orthodontics wouldn’t take place here.
Handle dental emergencies, such as toothaches or dental trauma.
Provide immediate care and referrals when required.
Educate patients about their treatment options and oral health maintenance.
Strictly adhere to infection control protocols to maintain a clean and safe dental environment.
Ensure proper sterilization of equipment and maintain hygiene standards.
Interpret dental X-rays and other diagnostic imaging for diagnosis.
Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation.
Stay updated on the latest developments in dentistry through professional development.
Attend relevant training and seminars to enhance skills and knowledge.
Work closely with dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other healthcare professionals for coordinated patient care.
Effectively communicate treatment plans and options with patients.
Ensure compliance with dental regulations and standards.
Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with healthcare laws.
Keep accurate and up-to-date patient records.
Assist with billing and insurance claims as necessary.

b: qualifications
Graduation from an approved college/university dental program.
Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution.
Valid state dental license and compliance with all relevant state dental practice requirements.
Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of current dental practices and emerging trends in dentistry.

Must possess and maintain a valid license to practice dentistry in the State of Rhode Island.
FACTOR 2 – SUPERVISORY CONTROL
This position reports to the Health Service Administrator.
FACTOR 3 – GUIDELINES
Must follow all proper policies and procedures of the institution. May devise own policies and procedures with appropriate approval of the Health Service Administrator consistent with sound correctional policies and procedures.

Requires regular and reliable attendance, as well as possess physical and mental endurance to respond properly and professionally to stressful situations and work environment. Organized and well disciplined to document all treatment, incidents, training, etc.

Employee will participate in defined staff training.
