The duties of an EFDA/Assistant are not limited to the functions below. The expanded functions that EFDAs and dental assistants are allowed to perform in a dental office are dictated by Ohio's dental board.
Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
Capturing quality dental radiographs (x-rays)
Perform efficient and accurate procedures as directed by the Dentist, while maintaining the schedule and patient flow
Carryout infection control protocol- preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, as directed by the Dentist
With the direction of the Dentist, education patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., toothbrushing, flossing, home care)
Taking impressions of patients' teeth for diagnostic casts
Inventory
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certificate, if applicable
1 year dental practice experience (Preferred); recent grads will be considered
X-Ray Certification
CPR Certification
CBCT/Digital x-ray experience (Preferred)
Prior experience with dental management software - Dentrix Ascend preferred, but will train the right candidate
QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent interpersonal skills
Dedication to provide high quality, comprehensive chairside care
Ability to comply with safety procedures, rules, and regulations in order to maintain a clean and safe working environment
Strong working knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, and practices
